Static Paradox blog post #4 - Game is done

Final puzzle The final puzzle has very limited changes.  It will always start with a main timer that when it reaches 0, will send the player back to the start. It has 666 seconds. Good amount of buffer time. The main idea is seeing a door that requires to be opened and finding a way to open it. The main puzzles requires the player to find two out of four keys to open a door to get a gun and to shoot a lever. The lever opens a door for a keycard room which opens a room full of keys. The keys have to be used to open the first exit door and to open a room with four levers and an alien inside. One lever will open one of the final doors. Then a door to another keycard has to be opened to open another room full of keys. One of these keys goes to the last final door for opening it.  The fake keys mostly exist to slow the player down with paranoia, and they built up over time as more are collected to waste more time. The announcer repeats his words constantly and mocks the player....

Static Paradox blog post #3 - Third Area done

This has a bit of info, but I'll try to not go into too much detail about certain things for the cutscenes. First cutscenes Cutscenes are randomized with this selection. This is mostly a reference to Drowned God for the talking cutscenes, with a computer with a mask on the screen. One will have face up, being more helpful. Face down will be more aggressive. They both have different themes. The talking varies from someone saying not to go further, as there is no hope on the outside. Others mock the player. Others will say they were trying to find the fountain of youth, since the myth appeared due to the Osiris myth with his death making certain waters give his eternal life.  Then there is the more surreal which changes the environment into something like everything being made out of TVs. These mostly give a break to the action before applying tension again. Third Area This is a much bigger area, all enemies from all variations are in this area and there are multiple puzzles an...

Static Paradox blog post #2 - Second Area done

This ended up being quicker to make than I thought. After defeating the first area, there is one of six variations chosen for the next area. They have minor differences, mainly the monster the player has to deal with. The location The building is very tight and is shaped as a cross, with lots of couches and other objects. The player can spawn on any of the 4 ends. The middle has a gun that is used for defense, but also required to leave. Every end has a key to one of the four doors. There are four locked rooms. They act as safe rooms and one of them has a lever, that can only be activated from a gunshot. The gunshot opens a fifth hidden door around the middle to leave. The lever location and the key locations are randomized no matter what variation you are on, and they have no names to point out right away where things go outside the generalizations.  Couches will also randomly rotate at the start, and they can be moved slowly. The variations have some smaller stuff like plac...

Static Paradox blog post #1 - Demo is up

Link: https://evilous.itch.io/static-paradox-demo I'm writing this all before finishing it fully, mainly due to how much localization is required for a couple of reasons I'll get into. What is the Static Paradox I wanted to make a full on single player horror game, since it's suppose to be quick and easy, and I started this around the 9-10th. I discovered something called Horror Engine which does a lot of the backend work for things like an inventory system, saving system, and more for items and certain objects. Which is really good for me, since I can focus on other things. And it would have taken me a while to make those systems on my own. The graphics look like a lot of TV static covering everything, making it harder to see. Originally I wanted a hatching post processing, but I didn't like how it looked so I made it more static like. The original idea was to have a duality of a Dream state and a reality state, where it would shift between them. But it eventually cha...
