Static Paradox blog post #7 - Game has released

Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3331690/Static_Paradox/ Almost forgot to post this. But it's 9.99, and for the first full on horror game I've made, I think it came out well. I do understand the strength and weaknesses for the future with this game. I knew horror games were popular, but I didn't expect the wishlist total this ended up getting for a first go around on the genre. So I will make more horror games in the future, especially if those does better than what I expect. It was fun to make. Anything else? Have to get better at 3D modeling in general and adding mechanics that fit this genre overall, but I think this will do well.

Steam Fest results - March 2025

It's pretty much over at this point, and I don't expect any major changes in the final day, so I'll post this now. I had two games during the Steam Fest, Prophecrawl and Static Paradox. I'll quickly go over it. Prophecrawl I've lowered the price from 9.99 to 4.99, mainly since it's multiplayer based so people buy more copies for their friends. The wishlist gain was modest. Better than what I expected due to the graphics but not too much of a wishlist gain compared to how well Static Paradox did. I'd consider it a success. Static Paradox This game has gotten the most wishlists during a steam fest than any other game I have put into a steam fest. It was a little bit more than Throne Requiem's steam fest wishlist gain. I'm guessing tomorrow it will get around 50 more wishlists, since the final day is mostly inconsequential. It really shows how much more popular the Horror genre is compared to anything else when a simpler game like this in the horror ge...

Static Paradox blog post #6 - Steam page is up

Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3331690 I wanted to be mysterious and simple, since people instantly figure out how they feel about a store page in the first 5 seconds which requires things to be straight to the point. Since this is my first full on horror game, not exactly sure how it will do, but I do think it will be decent in terms of reception at least. I think I learned a lot while working on it and it is good at developing tension. I think it will do well. It will be 9.99 on release. But it won't release until march due to the steam fest.

Static Paradox blog post #5 - Trailer and OST

This is covering the trailer and the OST. Trailer link: https://youtu.be/t5SNlP8bLOo It's simple but is made to make more tension over time, I think it works well. Originally the start was going to be slower, but it was too slow for how long people watch trailers, so I replaced it with something  right up your face. OST link:  https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/michaelrichardlannon/static-paradox-the-official-soundtrack 21 songs, and I learned a lot with making sound effects with decent droning music, so most songs are more something in the background for the sound effects to be stronger. I like how it came out. Anything else? Have to finish some stuff up to prepare it for a steam page, then it's basically done. I am glad it didn't take too long to make.

Static Paradox blog post #4 - Game is done

Final puzzle The final puzzle has very limited changes.  It will always start with a main timer that when it reaches 0, will send the player back to the start. It has 666 seconds. Good amount of buffer time. The main idea is seeing a door that requires to be opened and finding a way to open it. The main puzzles requires the player to find two out of four keys to open a door to get a gun and to shoot a lever. The lever opens a door for a keycard room which opens a room full of keys. The keys have to be used to open the first exit door and to open a room with four levers and an alien inside. One lever will open one of the final doors. Then a door to another keycard has to be opened to open another room full of keys. One of these keys goes to the last final door for opening it.  The fake keys mostly exist to slow the player down with paranoia, and they built up over time as more are collected to waste more time. The announcer repeats his words constantly and mocks the player....

Static Paradox blog post #3 - Third Area done

This has a bit of info, but I'll try to not go into too much detail about certain things for the cutscenes. First cutscenes Cutscenes are randomized with this selection. This is mostly a reference to Drowned God for the talking cutscenes, with a computer with a mask on the screen. One will have face up, being more helpful. Face down will be more aggressive. They both have different themes. The talking varies from someone saying not to go further, as there is no hope on the outside. Others mock the player. Others will say they were trying to find the fountain of youth, since the myth appeared due to the Osiris myth with his death making certain waters give his eternal life.  Then there is the more surreal which changes the environment into something like everything being made out of TVs. These mostly give a break to the action before applying tension again. Third Area This is a much bigger area, all enemies from all variations are in this area and there are multiple puzzles an...

Static Paradox blog post #2 - Second Area done

This ended up being quicker to make than I thought. After defeating the first area, there is one of six variations chosen for the next area. They have minor differences, mainly the monster the player has to deal with. The location The building is very tight and is shaped as a cross, with lots of couches and other objects. The player can spawn on any of the 4 ends. The middle has a gun that is used for defense, but also required to leave. Every end has a key to one of the four doors. There are four locked rooms. They act as safe rooms and one of them has a lever, that can only be activated from a gunshot. The gunshot opens a fifth hidden door around the middle to leave. The lever location and the key locations are randomized no matter what variation you are on, and they have no names to point out right away where things go outside the generalizations.  Couches will also randomly rotate at the start, and they can be moved slowly. The variations have some smaller stuff like plac...
